All of the Database Design Studio grid views that support re-ordering of rows or columns use the same principle. This applies to Entity Relationship Diagram (ERD), Data Structure Diagram (DSD), Indexes and other grid views.
Follow this three step example:
Moved columns will retain their position through subsequent rebuilds and modifications to the model.
